Job Description:

Jefferson County’s Economic Development Consortium (JCEDC) created Thrive Economic Development (ThriveED) in 2016, which is supported by a coalition of area businesses, community, and civic leaders. ThriveED is dedicated to working toward prosperity in Jefferson and Dodge counties that will lead change necessary to support economic growth that results in healthy, thriving, and growing communities. To be successful, ThriveED has made it their mission to engage the public and private sectors in actions focused on attracting and supporting business growth that benefits the residents and communities of Jefferson and Dodge counties.

JCEDC is currently hiring a Managing Director/Business Development individual to provide proactive outreach to existing primary industry sector businesses primarily in Dodge County, with some outreach needed in Jefferson County as well. This position will manage the Business Retention & Expansion program work for the JCEDC and its counterpart ThriveED with activities to attract new private sector business investments supporting employment growth for the area.

To be successful in this role, you will be complete the below key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies for business retention and expansion, including meeting individually with primary industrial/manufacturing businesses, working with local jurisdictions and workforce groups, capturing data through retention interviews and identifying systemic constraints to be addressed and creating an annual major employer list.
  • Develop and/or support independent and/or inclusive business-focused activities designed to bolster growth of businesses in primary industry sectors in the area.  Work collaboratively and cooperatively with appropriate public agencies and/or business groups
  • Manage delivery of programmatic, technical and financing assistance to include accurate and timely responses to businesses seeking assistance, and documentation of activity in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool to ensure continuity of service
  • Oversee client/project management during the site selection process for manufacturing and industrial firms and works with management to negotiate and close deals with business attraction, retention and expansion clients
  • Engage in aggressive outreach efforts, such as business retention visits, outbound calls, email campaigns, broker/partner/consultant meetings, and sales missions

Starting wage: $69,940 - $77,925 annually; based on qualification

Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday; some nights and weekends will be needed

Qualifications:

Qualifications Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economic development, business, public administrative, economics or a related field with Five years’ experience in core economic development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills and intermediate-level knowledge of a CRM system, Excel, PowerPoint and databases
  • Valid driver’s license

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Transaction-based economic development experience and reliable transportation
  • Economic Developer Certification (CEcD)
