Job Description:

Jefferson County Human Resources department strives to provide high level public service by focusing on their objective to be a customer service focused team dedicated to being a resource to staff, managers, Board supervisors, and citizens of Jefferson County. Our team oversees recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, training and professional development, safety and wellness, employment law, and employee and labor relations for over 550 employees.

The Employee Recruitment & Retention Specialist acts as ambassador to Jefferson County employees and prospective employees, providing information and support services at all stages of the employee life cycle: recruitment, onboarding, career development, and transition. The Employee Recruitment & Retention Specialist works with senior management in developing strategies to recruit and retain a strong work force and promotes Jefferson County as an employer of choice in the community.

As an experienced, knowledgeable, and customer focused individual, you will be successful in this role by completing the below key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Researches and develops targeted recruitment strategies and policies that attract a diverse and qualified applicant pool.
  • Develops and leads efforts to retain employees and promote the County Partners with hiring managers to review, analyze, and clarify job descriptions and gain understanding of their current and anticipated staffing needs which may include developing temporary staffing strategies to cover extended absences or extended openings of key positions. 
  • Develops appropriate strategies to advertise and promote employment opportunities to generate qualified applicants based on the position being recruited
  • Takes proactive steps to understand the unique perspective of a public sector employee, including their wants, needs, and priorities, to improve their satisfaction with their position and with the engagement with the County and clients served.

Starting wage is typically between $23.42 - $30.53/hour, dependent on level of education and experience, with a 2% increase in July 2022!

Qualifications:

  Qualifications:

  Recruitment and Retention Specialist I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field plus one to two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  Advanced Recruitment and Retention Specialist:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field plus three to four years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with public sector recruitment and/or positions is highly preferred.
