Job Description:

Jefferson County Child Support Agency is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team in the role of Child Support Specialist.  We work in a spirit of teamwork to help hundreds of Jefferson County residents fulfill child support obligations to advance the physical, mental, and financial well-being of children through locating parents, establishing paternity, establishing support obligations and monitoring and enforcing those obligations. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification.

  • Monitor case files to ensure child support payments or court directives/obligations are being followed.
  • Conduct interviews, gather information, decide appropriate legal action or test to determine paternity of children to establish child support obligations or to proceed with other specialized legal actions.
  • Identifies, researches, and prepares correspondence and legal documents required to establish, enforce, and modify orders for child support, health insurance and paternity.
  • Conducts investigations to obtain information to process cases or locate parents using a variety of automated and manual locate resources.
  • Provides information regarding support cases to attorneys, law enforcement, employers, other agencies, customers, and the general public; also explains policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. 
  • Secures documents, organizes information supporting recommendations, and maintains electronic filing system.

STARTING SALARY will typically begin between $21.85 - $25.93/hour, depending on qualifications and experience and includes an all-encompassing benefits package, including a current 6.8% match into the Wisconsin Retirement System.

Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions.  Two years related experience and/or training; or associate’s degree and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions.  Three to four years related experience and/or training; or associate’s degree and two years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Requirements – Certificates/Licensures

Notary Public.

Comply with IRS Publication 1075- fingerprint background investigation.

Bilingual in English and Spanish languages preferred.
